Fishing While You Sail

If you enjoy fishing—or simply like the idea of catching something that can later be prepared on board—you can make fishing part of your time in San Blas.

The activity is integrated into the sailing itinerary and always takes place under the captain’s guidance. In some cases, lines are set while sailing between different areas. In others, fishing takes place from the tender or in specific locations chosen by the crew.

The crew will help prepare the equipment and explain how the activity works. As with any experience in nature, a catch cannot be guaranteed.

Available Types of Fishing

Depending on the boat, the equipment available, the area, and the sea conditions, different options may be offered:

• Trolling
• Bottom fishing

Sailinguest will let you know which options are available on each boat and coordinate the experience before your trip.

Respect for the Environment

Fishing is approached with respect for the sea and the rules of Guna Yala.

The captain will decide where fishing is permitted, which species may be caught, and which fish must be released. The aim is to catch only what will be eaten on board.

From the Catch to the Table

When there is a catch and the arrangements on board allow it, the fish may be prepared as part of one of the day’s meals.

How it is prepared will depend on the species, the ingredients available, and the dining style of each boat.

Practical Information

The activity must be requested before your trip, as equipment and available fishing options vary from one boat to another.

Fishing is subject to weather, sea conditions, local regulations, and the captain’s assessment.
